Guests treated to live performance by Circo de Bakuza; Shantelle and Yannick Bisson received The Outstanding Volunteer Award
September 26, 2019 (TORONTO, ON) – On September 25, 2019, the Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation and Childhood Cancer Canada inaugural Gold Ribbon Gala brought together over 400 childhood cancer supporters and passionate advocates to raise funds and awareness for children, youth, and young adults impacted by cancer. Canadian sportscaster Rod Black hosted the event that raised close to $650,000 and Shantelle and Yannick Bisson (Murdoch Mysteries) received The Outstanding Volunteer Award, which honours those who have made a noteworthy contribution above and beyond what is reasonably expected. A selection of George Pimentel’s photos of the event can be found here.
“I am thrilled with the result of the inaugural Gold Ribbon Gala,” said CEO of Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation and Childhood Cancer Canada, Jaime Wilson. “As a new flagship fundraising event, the Gold Ribbon Gala celebrates the work our movement has accomplished since we started in 2003, but also highlights the funding and awareness gaps that still exist. Childhood cancer is still prevalent in Canada, with 880 children diagnosed every year. One in five of those children, unfortunately do not survive their disease. The Gold Ribbon Gala brings these stark facts to the forefront and encourages Canadians to help us envision a world beyond kids’ cancer.”
The event kicked off with an interactive cocktail reception followed by custom live visual performance by Circo de Bakuza, followed by a seated dinner. Throughout the evening, guests heard from Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation and Childhood Cancer Canada volunteers, fundraisers, and philanthropists, but most importantly, they heard first-hand from childhood cancer ambassadors and their families on the incredible impact of fundraising dollars.
Funds raised will go towards childhood, youth, and young adult cancer research and programs. Both Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation and Childhood Cancer Canada are thrilled with the results and thank all those who attended or donated.
